Introducing: Doctor Death Touch

December 7th, 2008 by Garv | 9 Comments | Filed in East Coast Fight Scene

Dr. Michael Kelly is a physician who specializes in sports medicine and practices in the state of New Jersey. He is also one of New Jersey’s top MMA ringside doctors. Doctor Kelly is a familiar face when I go down to AC to cover the fights and it’s always a pleasure to chat with him. But in all of our conversations, the good doctor has never once revealed to me the fact that he has an alter ego. A dark and deadly alter ego.

An alter ego named….Doctor Death Touch.

Now death touch, as some of you already know, is another name for dim mak, the deadly art of pressure point attacks. Some people dispute the legitimacy of dim mak, believing that it’s fake. But they are wrong, dead wrong. In fact, I have personally studied for many years in China and other exotic locales, learning the deadly secrets and becoming a master of dim mak. Unfortunately for me, however, I had to take just as many years to unlearn those deadly secrets, because every time I picked my nose or scratched my ass I’d wind up in the hospital. This stuff is for real.

And Doctor Death Touch is the world’s foremost expert on the deadly art. In fact, Doctor Death Touch has even written a book on the subject, which I have just ordered off his website. This book details the medical effects of dim mak pressure points on the human body’s nervous and cardiovascular systems and explores the relationship between dim mak and medical science.

I can’t wait to get my copy of the book. It’s a serious look at dim mak, from the view of an established physician and I’m sure it’s a great read.

And I really can’t wait until I see Doctor Kelly down in AC again. I need to find out exactly where he learned this stuff. I know they don’t teach death touch in medical school, at least not in the sports medicine field. Proctology might be another story. In fact I need to remember to ask my ham fisted proctologist, Doctor Goldfinger, if he’s had any formal training in dim mak. It feels like he does.

If you want to learn more about dim mak, you can check out Doctor Death Touch and/or order his book on the Net at dimmak.net.

New Promotion: World Cagefighting Alliance

November 26th, 2008 by Garv | 1 Comment | Filed in East Coast Fight Scene, WCA

I’m happy to announce that a new MMA promotion called the World Cagefighting Alliance has just been launched and is looking to take the East Coast by storm.  The WCA is being run by Derek Panza, who will serve as President.  Also on board are Gary Marino and Keith Evans.  This is an experienced team of MMA veterans and I expect big things from this organization.

The first WCA show is scheduled for February 6, 2009 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. No word yet on who’s fighting but I’m hearing rumors that, if they turn out to be true, are going to knock people’s socks off.

Good luck to the WCA!  You can check out their MySpace page here: WCA MYSPACE.

Asylum Fight League: Insane!

November 17th, 2008 by Garv | No Comments | Filed in East Coast Fight Scene

While the pros were battling it out at UFC 91 on Saturday night, amateurs showed their stuff in the cage at Battle at the Abyss.  I was doing the ring announcing for the show and I can tell you that the crowd was rocking.

Some of the fights were between Team Tiger Shulman and Team Carmine Zocchi and all the fighters fought their hearts out.  There were plenty of KOs and submissions and everyone had a great time.

I will be doing more AFL shows in December, including one that’s being held for our men and women in uniform at Fort Dix.  So stay tuned for that. And check out the Asylum Fight League website.  AsylumFightLeague.com

You can see complete results from Battle at the Abyss after the jump.

There’s a great grappling tournament in Phillipsburg, New Jersey this Saturday where contestants will be competing for FIVE GRAND!

And I will have the honor of doing some announcing at the event, so if you want to hang out, come on down!

You can check out their website at worldgrapplingchampionships.com

Here’s a press release for the event:

FULL CONTACT FIGHTER PRESENTS
THE WORLD GRAPPLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
NOVEMBER 22, 2008 IN PHILLIPSBURG, NJ
This inaugural tournament will serve as a catalyst for the growth of grappling and MMA in the northeast and on the east coast. The two tiered competition will feature a five weight team tournament along side individual weight class competition based on levels of experience. However, the team tournament features a $5,000 cash prize and a feature in Full Contact Fighter’s monthly publication; one of the most widely distributed and respected publications in the greater mixed martial arts community.

Individual weight class winners and other participants will qualify for a WGC/FCF ranking system which will evolve through future WGC productions. Those rankings will also become a staple in FCF print and online publications.

In additional to cash prizes, intense competition, and the ability to build and showcase ones skills, the WGC will feature appearances from undefeated UFC Fighters Jon Jones and Mike Massenzio. In addition, current WEC and Affliction athletes will be on hand to conduct demonstrations. November 22nd proves to be the next big step for the sport of grappling and its role in advancing mixed martial arts. Come be part of the action and excitement as the World Grappling Championships invades New Jersey.

The WGC will have a $5000 prize for the winners of the Team Tournament. The weight classes for this competition are 145, 160, 175, 190, and HWT. Teams will be put in a bracket format. If your team wins you advance to the next round to face another team that has won until you have the final 2 teams. Each team will be allowed to enter 8 people in case you want to switch the line-up around or you have an injury. The point system for this tournament is very simple. If your team wins the match by decision, you receive 3 team points. If your team earns a tap out then your team receives 5 team points. Each match will be 7 minutes in length.
