(Ms. Dana White: You're Fired!)

What happened to Dana White?  For years he pretended to be a tough guy, shooting from the hip, immune to political correctness, and never afraid to speak his mind.  But now, it seems that he is undergoing a transformation, or more accurately a pussification, because every time a UFC fighter says something not politically correct, Dana fires the guy.

Miguel Torres quoted a joke from a TV show on his Twitter account and got fired for it.  Dana White made the judgement call that Torres was over the line, and although the joke made it past TV censors, it didn't make it past White, who was obviously deeply shaken and disturbed by the offhand remark.  Fortunately for Torres and fans, Lorenzo Ferttitta apparently overruled Dana and had White hire Torres back.

Now King Mo is feeling the wrath of the new pussified Dana White.  He just got canned for some remarks about a member of the NSAC, in which he called her a "bitch."  I am not excusing King Mo for that language, it was a dumb thing to say.  However, Dana becoming upset enough to fire him for the remark is absurd and hypocritical.  Remember Dana's rant against Loretta Hunt, one of MMA's top journalists?  He called her a "bitch" and other epitaphs, and even used the word "faggot" in his rant.  But now he is shocked and dismayed when fighters use the same language?

Actually, some fighters can use that language and are safe from Dana's newfound sensibilites.  Forrest Griffin joked about rape, Phil Davis joked about pedophilia, etc, but they are still with the UFC.  Dana's selective outrage is outrageous and unfair.

Here's the background on the King Mo Lawal situation:  King Mo tested positive for steroids after his fight with Lorenzo Larkin.  His win was overturned and he was suspended for 9 months by the NSAC, and fined 39000 dollars.  This prompted Mo to lash out on his Twitter account, and he hinted at racism from one of the NSAC members, a female, whom he called a "bitch."

Like I said, it was a dumb thing to do, and he should be reprimanded for it.  Firing him is over the line, however.  Nothing Mo said was worse than what other fighters have said in the past--and nowhere near as bad as what Dana says.

But Dana has shown, especially since the Fox deal, that unless you are one of his pet fighters, you need to walk on eggshells around him, because he is just itching to assert his authority.  In my opinion he feels emasculated in many ways by the Fox deal, and in response he is going overboard in trying to look like the decision-maker.  He is trying way too hard to make every situation about him, at the expense of his own company--and it's backfiring in a big way.

Case in point is his statement about soccer.  He dissed the most popular sport in the world, at the same time that the UFC is trying to expand its base around the world.  That's not the way to win friends and influence people, and it's no wonder that America's mainstream press treats the UFC president as a joke--because he acts like one.

The firing of Torres and King Mo are indicative of a man who feels powerless and needs to assert his authority in order to feel good about himself.  I hear that Dana even fired his chef recently, and for no apparent reason.  Again, it's about flexing those phony muscles.

But like I said, it's backfiring and it's beginning to hurt the UFC brand, in my opinion.  Lorenzo needs to reign this guy in before he totally destroys what the UFC has worked so hard to achieve.  Dana is certainly a big part of the UFC's success, but his micro-management, foul mouth, and irrational behavior lately might just be undoing all that he's done.  It's time the Baldfather took a long vacation, because the stress seems to be getting to him.  Or maybe he just needs to grow up.

Just days after lamenting about the world becoming "pussified," Dana fires King Mo because Mo said "bitch."  Ironic?  No, moronic is more like it.  And unacceptable.  Lorenzo, please sit this guy down.  Again.
