Antonio_Rog_vs_Forrest_Griffin3

Stones. Cajones. Balls. Forrest Griffin has them, and they're huge--and he continues to prove it time and time again.

Segueing from my unsettling visual of the human anatomy to the sport of MMA, I don't know how anyone can not respect the hell out of Mr. Griffin.  The man deserves to be mentioned with great emphasis in any conversation involving fighters who have chosen to cast hesitation and safety aside in order to face the best competition possible, especially after tasting the bitter agony this brazen strategy can produce when Anderson Silva embarrassed him.

The best thing a fighter can do after a one-sided beatdown like that is to jump right back on the horse and parade into another battle, and Forrest has already done that successfully against Tito Ortiz, and plans to once more by agreeing to face UFC newcomer Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 113 on May 8th.

In Griffin's last 9 fights, the only opponents that were not top-ten ranked heavyweights were Hector Ramirez, Stephan Bonnar, and the second fight with Tito Ortiz.  Forrest Griffin may be clinically insane, and I mean that in the most favorable and admirable sense possible.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, affectionately known as "Little Nog", has been a stalwart of the top 205 pound rankings for years.  Despite dropping out of the limelight for a short time after he ate a brutal left hook from Sokoudjou and Pride closed it's doors, Little Nog burst back on to the scene with a picture-perfect KO of rising star Luis Cane in Nog's UFC debut.  Since the the shocking loss to Sokoudjou, Little Nog has strung together six wins in smaller promotions, and with his dramatic dismantling of Cane for his first scrap in the big show, the stage is set for Little Nog to rocket towards title contention by facing Forrest Griffin.

Little Nog's rapid ascension signals just how talented Team Nogueirais:  Junior Dos Santos has also been clobbering foes while quickly climbing the heavyweight ladder, Big Nog was already the interim title-holder and is poised to take another crack at the belt, and Anderson Silva... well, I don't think any explanation is necessary there.

Also expected for UFC 113 in Montreal on May 8:

Paul Daley vs. Josh Koscheck

T.J. Grant vs. Johny Hendricks

  • Marcus Davis vs. Jonathan Goulet (rumored)
