Ryan Couture Succumbs to Genetic MMA Infection: Schedules Pro Debut

Living in proximity with Randy Couture is like getting taped into an MMA quarantine tent with an infected brawler.  Kim Couture moved into that stuffy environment, and she caught the bug.

Her side effects?  Broken teeth and a name that she can’t seem to shake after the breakup.  Once a Couture, always a Couture, I suppose.     

Now, Sherdog.com is reporting that Randy’s son, Ryan, will make his professional debut on August 13, 2010, at the Strikeforce Challengers 10 event in Phoenix.  His scheduled opponent is Lucas Stark.  Ryan is (4-1) as an amateur.

In a February 2009 interview with MMA.junkie.com, he talked about his motivation to compete:

"There was never any pressure from him," Couture said of his father. "I'm excited for the chance to be close to him, and I hope I can make my own name in what I'm doing. I'm not doing it because of him, I'm trying to prove myself."

Ryan was choked unconscious in his most recent fight, but his lights went out just after the bell rang at the end of the second round.  He shook out the cobwebs and the fight ended in a draw.

Can Randy live with himself in light of all this?  Of course he can.  But anyone else who lives with him should take care.  If you’re his second cousin, or maybe his butler, see a doctor if you start throwing rear naked chokes on sofa cushions.
