One of the world's best and recently forgotten heavyweights will jump back into maw of the heavyweight grind as Andrei Arlovski has announced on his website that he's making his return to the Strikeforce organization with a 16-month contract. Rumors that he would face ATT fighter and former EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva were later confirmed by Silva's management. Andrei's statement from Arlovski.com:

Strikeforce makes another big splash by infusing their April 17th CBS card with a third championship title fight between Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal and current belt-holder Gegard "The Dreamcatcher" Mousasi. This light-heavyweight bout will compliment the two other title-fights featured in the event: the Strikeforce lightweight title bout featuring DREAM divisional-champ Shinya Aoki against current Strikeforce king, Gilbert Melendez; and the middleweight championship match pitting Jake Shields vs. Strikeforce newcomer Dan Henderson. For the old school fans: Here is Big John McCarthy's prefight instructions from UFC 19 when Kevin Randleman fought Maurice Smith. He was cornered by fellow Hammer Houser Mark Coleman. A rare inside look at the the UFC behind the scenes.
I can only imagine that mixed emotions will wash over the fans who have been clamoring for Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem to climb back in the cage and defend the title, something he hasn't done since first winning the strap way back in November of 2007. On one hand, Overeem has indeed been booked to face Brett Rogers in a heavyweight throwdown, and the report indicates that the encounter will most likely take place May 15 on a card that Strikeforce is still building in St. Louis. This is great news for anyone who genuinely wants to see one of the most talented heavyweight knockout artists get back to fighting stateside under the Strikeforce banner, and will take a chunk out of the argument that Overeem is avoiding the U.S. for fear of testing positive for steroids.
The odd snapshot above from Combat Lifestyle is weird enough in it's original, unmolested form to be posted sans photoshop. We can only assume that beer goggles were involved considering it appears to be a recent picture that is mysteriously devoid of any signs of animosity between the two arch-rivals. Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell will coach opposing team on the eleventh installment of The Ultimate Fighter, which premieres on SpikeTV March 31st after Ultimate Fight Night 21. Middleweights will be the featured weight class. A three-minute video of each of the twenty-eight cast members is posted after the jump. The WEC's Miguel Torres is looking for a rematch with Brian Bowles, but first he has to win on March 6th. In this exclusive interview, Miguel talks about the KO loss to Bowles, his training with Kurt Pellegrino, the Urijah Faber match against Jose Aldo in April and much more.
Of course, the underlying theme in the picture above depicting the frail, effeminate guy wearing the skirt is that he can engulf you in a tangled web of octopus-like limbs and sever you from consciousness in a matter of mere seconds with a submission that hasn't even been invented yet. DREAM lightweight champion and submission-god Shinya Aoki has had his sights set on fighting in the states since last year, and now news has surfaced that Strikeforce will once again manipulate the controls of the DREAM co-promotional machine and import the world's #2 155-pounder to face their own lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez. The event will take place live on CBS from Nashville, Tennessee, on April 17. God bless you, Scott Coker. This is a thing of beauty.
If you're a fan of the UFC's dynamic 170-pound stable of fighters, then you're not going to want to miss UFC 111 on March 27. Six of the ten allotted matches on the card will feature welterweight fighters. The event's centerpiece will serve as the hinge for the future of the division as comfortably nestled champion Georges St. Pierre will defend his belt against top challenger Dan Hardy, the fiery brawler with a left-hook that registers on the Richter Scale. The clearcut number one and two contenders in the category, Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves, will collide in a highly anticipated rematch that will establish who is next in line for a crack at the title. These two fights alone absolutely stack the card, as these are the four best welterweights in the world. If that's not enough, the division will also be welcoming some talented new members to it's ranks: fan-favorite Nate Diaz will climb a weight class and make his first UFC welterweight appearance versus the trigger-happy Rory Markham, and battle-hardened submissionist Ricardo Almeida will drop down after a storied middleweight career to make his divisional debut against one of the most under-rated and under-appreciated scrappers in the business, Matt "The Immortal" Brown, while undefeated Greg Soto will enter the octagon for the first time against former TUF-standout Matt Riddle. Attention NY and New Jersey residents. Evolution AMMA is putting on their second show on March 6th and it's close to NYC in Rahway at the Rahway Union County Performing Arts Center.. The card is full of rising young stars and is guaranteed to be explosive. I'll be in the cage doing the ring announcing and I can't wait for this show. For tickets call 732-499-8226 or visit UCPAC.com. See you at the show!!
