Ok, so Eminem he is not, but at least he can kick Eminem's ass! Who knew that Kurt Pellegrino, the New Jersey-born UFC star, is also an aspiring rapper. Check out this video clip of him laying down rhymes.
The UFC has announced that the headlining match for the The Ultimate Fighter Season 9 finale will be Diego "the Nightmare" Sanchez vs. Clay "The Carpenter" Guida. The bout is scheduled to take place on June 20th in Las Vegas and will be aired live on Spike TV. Both Sanchez and Guida are riding 3 fight win streaks, and this bout promises to be fireworks.
Dana White commented on the fight:
“Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida has the potential to be one of the most action packed fights of the year,” UFC President Dana White said. “Both men have won multiple “Fight of the Night “awards and are two of the most aggressive grapplers in the division. Guida is coming off a big win over The Ultimate Fighter Season 5 winner Nate Diaz and Sanchez just defeated The Ultimate Fighter Season 2 winner Joe Stevenson. The winner of this fight will move into the upper portion of the lightweight rankings and get that much closer to a title shot.”
Clearly this is a huge fight for both fighters. I actually spoke to Diego a few weeks ago and I asked him about his next fight. He didn't know at the time who he'd be fighting (or chose not say) but he did promise that we'd be seeing more wrestling from him this time. Sanchez has been focused on his stand up in his past few fights and I am looking for a return to his wrestling roots in this one.
Great fight, and a fitting finale for TUF 9.
MMAWeekly is reporting that they've confirmed with sources close to the fight that Forrest Griffin will be taking on Thiago Silva at UFC 101 in Philadelphia, PA, on August 8th. The card is likely to feature BJ Penn vs. Kenny Florian in the main event.
Thiswill be the first UFC in Pennsylvania, after the state officially sanctioned MMA last month.
Forrest Griffin is coming off a loss to Rashad Evans back in December, a fight in which in also broke his hand. But he's been rehabbing and it looks like he'll be ready to Thiago Silva by August.
Silva too is coming off a loss, his first professional MMA loss, to Lyoto Machida back in January. Silva was KO'd in spectacular fashion in that fight and will be looking to return to his winning ways against Griffin.
