Former UFC Fighter, Forrest “The Meat Cleaver” Petz Replaces Shonie Carter in Co-Main Event on April 11th

“Mr. International” Shonie Carter will be cut from the main event after breaking his arm in training. Carter’s replacement will be former UFC fighter Forrest Petz. Petz, who holds wins over Charles “Crazy Horse” Bennett, Sam Morgan, and Luigi Fioravanti, will now face undefeated Victor O’Donnell in the co-main event. The last time Petz fought in Cincinnati was against Joshua Burkman at UFC 77 at U.S. Bank Arena in 2007.

In the co-main event, Dale, Ind.’s Dan “The Sandman” Christison (14-6), a competitor on “The Ultimate Fighter 2,” and the UFC, takes on fellow heavyweight Marcio Cruz (4-2), a jiu-jitsu expert who defeated current UFC interim heavyweight champ Frank Mir in 2006.

The ICF’s own Chad “The H-Bomb” Hinton, owner of Cincy MMA & Fitness Team Extreme, will be fighting UFC, Adrenaline MMA and King of the Cage vet Jeff Cox on April 11th at U.S. Bank Arena. Hinton is undefeated both as an amateur and as a pro holding a 3-0 professional record and is also currently a Lightweight Champion. This will be a huge fight for Hinton as he pursues his quest for the UFC. Hinton’s gym, Cincy MMA & Fitness located on the West Side of Cincinnati, has produced many up and comers and future stars like Marcus Finch, Matt Egner and Alex Smith to name a few.

Another Cincinnati local and “Ultimate Fighter 7″ star Luke Zachrich will now take on Robert Thompson. Thompson has a record of 7-3 while Zachrich is 8-1.

Additionally, as an added bonus for all the fans who come out to ICF: Breakout, Cincinnati native and MMA superstar Rich Franklin along with former UFC Lightweight Champion and current WEC Featherweight competitor Jens “Lil Evil” Pulver will both be on hand to sign autographs and meet with the fans.

Our buds across the pond at MMABay.co.uk videotaped Michael Bisping sparring with Cheick Kongo over at the Wolfslair in the UK.  It's a cool little video, so sit back, grab a spot of tea and enjoy.

UFC 100 is shaping up into a great card. As well it should, seeing how historic the event is going to be. Here's a sweet little promo video.

diazweedmb3 Nick Diaz is an advocate of smoking marijuana and he makes no apologies. The following video is from the Strikeforce press conference last week. Also included are some great Diaz photoshops and even my Nick Diaz pot scandal video, which both Nick and Nate thoroughly enjoyed. nickthc diazweed diazpot diazhorse

Great news for fans of New Jersey's fighting Miller brothers. A new fight for UFC 100 is being reported by MMAWeekly. They've confirmed that Mac Danzig will be taking on Jim Miller at UFC 100.

Danzig is coming off back to back losses in the Octagon, losing to Clay Guida and then Josh Neer. Miller too is coming off a loss, to Gray Maynard at UFC 96. Both fighters will be looking to bounce back and get on the winning side of the ledger.

The UFC is definitely keeping the Miller brothers busy. They have Danny fighting in May at UFC 98 against Yushin Okami, then Jim going at UFC 100.

Also fighting at UFC 98 is another New Jersey standout and AMA Fight Club fighter Frankie Edgar. It's pretty obvious that the UFC knows East Coast fighters can fight!

Dino and I will be heading down to AMA Fight Club for some more exclusive training footage in the near future, so stay tuned for that.

This is not a new clip but it's very interesting.  Joe Rogan debates Lou Dibella about the merits of boxing as opposed to MMA.  They even talk briefly with Chuck Liddell and Floyd Mayweather.  My take is that the sports are completely different and that boxers would not do well in MMA just as MMA fighters would not do well in boxing.  But we all knew that already of course. We just like to argue!

Brazilian fighter Rodrigo Damm, a Sengoku stand out with an 8-2 record, is the replacement for Josh Thomson against Gilbert Melendez on Strikeforce this Saturday night. Here's the press release:

New York (April 9, 2009)–Sengoku star Rodrigo Damm (8-2) has made his way from his native Brazil to California to replace injured Strikeforce World Lightweight (155 lb. limit) Champion Josh Thomson in the matchup with Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez (14-2) this Saturday on the live SHOWTIME televised portion of Strikeforce: “Shamrock vs. Diaz” mega-fight card at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. (Pending California State Athletic Commission approval) The winner of the five-round bout between Melendez and Damm will be crowned the Interim Strikeforce Lightweight Champion and be granted a shot at Thomson when the injured fighter is ready to return to action. Damm captured the attention of MMA fans worldwide on June 8, 2008, when he scored a second round TKO on rising American Top Team star Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal at Saitama , Japan ’s Saitama Super Arena. The victory over Masvidal capped off an eight fight win streak for Damm, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist who has produced submissions in five of his eight career wins. Damm has been fighting professionally for five years. Thomson sustained a broken leg last week while sparring and was forced to withdraw from his rematch with Melendez. Thomson won the title in his initial encounter with Melendez, a five-round, non-stop-action battle via unanimous decision at the HP Pavilion on June 27, 2008. Thomson underwent surgery shortly after the break occurred. His estimated recovery time has not been determined. The 26-year-old Melendez, an expert in both Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, is looking to return to the win column after his last start, the loss to Thomson. A resident of San Francisco, Melendez went unbeaten in his first 13 professional appearances, a run that catapulted him into the world top 10 rankings. The “Shamrock vs. Diaz” event represents the dawn of a new age for Strikeforce as it will be the first one under the world championship MMA promotion’s new television agreement with Showtime Networks Inc. The live telecast will feature five fights including a thrilling main event between four-time world champion and MMA legend Frank Shamrock (24-9-1) and fellow knockout artist Nick Diaz (18-7, 1 NC), contested at a catch weight of 179 pounds. Middleweight (185-pound limit) sluggers Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith (16-5, 1 NC) and Benji “Razor” Radach (19-4) will also meet in a featured contest. Heavyweight mixed martial arts (MMA) forces, Brett “The Grim” Rogers (8-0) and “Abongo” Humphrey (12-0) will put their unbeaten records on the line when they face off. Women’s MMA power houses, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (6-1) and Hitomi “Girlfight Monster” Akano (14-5) will slug it out in a 145-pound showdown. Strikeforce “Shamrock vs. Diaz” will air live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) on Saturday, April 11.
