Bob Sapp SAPP TIME

It's "Sapp Time" for Sokoudjou as Bob "The Beast" Sapp will step in for the injured Gegard Mousasi in the open-weight "Super Hulk" tournament semi-finals at DREAM 11 on October 6th.  MMAWeekly confirmed the news with Sapp. Sapp was a competitor in the opening round of the Super Hulk brackets, but was submitted by giant killer Ikuhisa "Minowaman".  Minowa will face the towering Hong Man Choi in the semi-finals opposite Sapp/Sokoudjou in his continual quest to impress and arouse the Japanese crowd as the undersized Mighty Mouse amongst a forest of much more massive fighters. DREAM 11 will also feature the rubber match between Joachim Hansen and Shinya Aoki for the lightweight crown, and the semi's and finals of the vaunted featherweight Gran Prix, consisting of Joe Warren vs. Bibiano Fernandes and Hideo Tokoro vs. Hiroyuki Takaya.  Kazuyuki Miyata and Daiki Hata will serve as the FW reserve bout. Recently, ATT lightweight Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante was also added to the card versus Daisuke Nakamura.

When the sensation known as "Kimbo Slice" and his bareknuckle Youtube brawls caught fire on the internet, the general consensus was that the thought of the bearded brute actually competing in a legitimate MMA fight was downright laughable. Not even the great  Nostradamus himself could have foreseen the frightening truth of the future, which I now display before your very own eyes:  Kimbo Slice as the star of a Norton Anti-Virus advertisement.

Two stalwarts in the UFC 155 division will collide to determine superiority as Boston native Kenny Florian will face caveman Clay Guida at UFC 107 in Memphis on December 12th. Florian fell short twice in his quest for the LW belt, the first being a gutsy decision loss to then-champion Sean Sherk, and the last coming against "The Prodigy" B.J. Penn at UFC 101, where he folded to a rear-naked choke.  "KenFlo" was on a six-fight win streak before encountering Penn, and has vowed to discard his discouragement and rejoin the title race without hesitation. Clay Guida, one of the few UFC fighters to gain tremendous respect even when losing due to his aggressive and inspiring performances, is also looking to rebound after dropping a decision to LW newcomer Diego Sanchez, who will be facing Penn on the same UFC 107 card as Guida/Florian.

Red Devil fighter Gegard Mousasi jettisoned his habitually laid-back demeanor and opened fire on former WEC champion Paulo Filho earlier this week, labeling him "a little donkey on steroids", covered here by The Garv.

Mousasi's venom-laced comments were a retort to Filho's instigative boasting on Tatame, and now Filho has sustained the verbal volley by responding to Mousasi's highly-inflammatory steroid accusation.  Originally posted on terra.com.br, Filho had the following to say in the interview:  (translation via MMABay)

“I didn’t take any steroid. How could I have taken steroids before losing 9 kilos?” “It’s his fault. He wants to talk, but the truth is he is afraid. He watched me in the past and I also watched him. He didn’t change his game too much. He’s the same: paper-thin and just put on some weight.” “And it’s clear he doesn’t respect the opponent because he always has this ‘superior’ look on his face. He’s in good momentum right now but the Brazilian light-heavyweights are able to beat him up - and I’m one of them.” “The fight isn’t signed yet but it will happen. DREAM and Strikeforce have connection. Wherever he wants to face me off, we’ll fight. Be sure we will put on this challenge.” “Depending on the position I will punish him on the ground. All fights end up clinched and he falls easily. I’ll use my jiu-jitsu base to annul his game.”
Filho was widely considered one of world's top fighters before his lackadaisical and disappointing performances stateside in the WEC middleweight division.  Mousasi has recently abandoned the 185 pound class to do battle at 205, and created quite a stir and answered many questions in his LHW debut by annihilating Renato "Babalu" Sobral with a quick KO to attain the Strikeforce LHW belt. With Strikeforce's recent business plan incorporating co-promotion with M1 and DREAM, this is a fight that could actually take place, although considering Filho's recent fizzle and Mousasi's astounding rise to 205, the Red Devil fighter would rightfully be the heavy favorite.

Looks like Jon Jones will be taking on Matt Hamill in the TUF 10 finale. I've just confirmed with sources close to the Jones camp that this fight is a go. Jones has made quite a splash in MMA circles with his 3 wins in the UFC and he has been rewarded with a 4 fight contract. Hamill is on a 2 fight win streak in the UFC, finishing both fights with strikes. This should be a great match up for both fighters and will make a fine addition to the finale's card.
