Looks like Chuck Liddell will be out of action until May, which means he won't be on the UFC 96 card.  Dave Meltzer is reporting that Liddell is going to sit out until May 28.  Chuck's opponent at this time is the ubiquitous "TBA," but I'm sure he'll drop out like he always does. So what does this mean for the UFC 96 card?  It means that the main event could very well be Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga.  Which is not a bad match up, in fact it's very interesting.  But I just don't see that a main event fight. But of course, it's very early in the game and all cards are subject to change so hopefully we'll see some more good match ups for UFC 96. chuck-liddell-iceman-ufc-1

From the Affliction press release:
Seal Beach, CA (January 9, 2009)—Canadian featherweight champion Mark "The Machine" Hominick is no longer fighting at the Affliction M-1 “Day of Reckoning” show due to a bout of pneumonia. Hominick was set to face LC Davis as part of the undercard for “Day of Reckoning” on Saturday, January 24 at Honda Center in Anaheim, CA and broadcast live on Pay-Per-View. LC Davis is a fearsome competitor known for his wrestling skills, his intensive training regimen at Pat Miletich’s world renowned Mixed Martial Arts School, and a near perfect record. The team at Affliction is working now to replace Hominick with a top featherweight competitor of the same caliber to face off against Davis; they will soon announce a replacement.
Now what kind of machine gets pneumonia? Couldn't they just change the carburetor? Who knows, maybe they had to wait for parts.  Be that as it may, get well soon, Mark!

Randy Couture has finally released a training video. Does it include take downs? No. Does it demonstrate the clinch? Negative. Does it reveal the secrets of dirty boxing? Nope. Well what does it teach us? How to fold socks.

Freddie Roach has been stepping up his criticism of Fedor Emelianenko's "boxing" prowess. In a press release from Affliction, he had this to say:
"I watched Fedor's last 20 fights and I am tired of him," said Roach. "It is easy for me to emulate his moves because he is predictable. He sucks at boxing. He can't box. He can punch, but he can't box. I know he's great on the ground. I know his moves. He won his last fight with his fists, but he ended it with a submission. There are certain moves that he has that we can take advantage of."
Now I'm a big fan of Freddie Roach. I think he's a phenomenal boxing trainer and I used to enjoy watching him fight back in the 80s against guys like Bobby Chacon and Hector "Macho" Comacho. But he's sees everything through his boxing goggles. He seems to be obsessing over what he perceives to be Fedor's inferior boxing technique. But MMA is not boxing; it's a completely different sport. I think all that Freddie is doing his fiery rhetoric is pissing Fedor off and that means that Andre is going to take a horrific beating. Freddie, here's a news flash: Fedor is not a boxer. He's a sambo guy who hits hard and has the most complete game in MMA. Take off those boxing goggles for just a minute. Please! roach-boxing-goggles Props to WatchinMMA for the 'Shop

Here's a video of Rampage in and out of the courtroom where he pled guilty to a felony charge of evading police. Jackson was lucky to escape with no jail time.
