TakanoriGomi

In an announcement that could prove pivotal for the Japanese and Shooto MMA scene, Shooto promoter Sustain has announced a grand revival of the legendary Vale Tudo Japan organization. This is the same vehicle that brought us classic old-school NHB tournaments and events in the mid to late 90's, featuring several memorable names such as Rickson Gracie, Dan Severn, Enson Inoue, Igor Zinoviev, Frank Trigg, Hayato Sakurai, and Caol Uno; and now two previous competitors in Takanori Gomi and Rumina Sato will take place in the event's august re-emergence against yet unnamed opponents, and "Lion" Takeshi is already booked to face Alexandre Pequeno Nogueira. The plot continues to thicken with the pledge that VTJ will act as a sort of beta-event to test changes to the standard Shooto format, including the addition of five-round fights, knees/stomps to the head of a downed opponent, and no establishment of standard weight classes.  I believe fighters will have to agree upon opponents and desired fighting weight on an ala' carte basis under the supervision of Sustain. The first event for the new and rejuvenated Vale Tudo Japan will be October 30th at the JCB Hall.  This could set the table for a huge change in the MMA scene in Japan.  I, for one, will be waiting with baited breath for the event to take concrete shape and will support the endeavors of VTJ in full. Although far from MMA, this inspiring Karate Kid-like performance from our fairy tale's young protagonist is worthy of a watch.  This should serve as a lesson to bully's all across America.
In the video above, Kimbo is interviewed by ESPN about his 14-second KO loss in EliteXC to former Ultimate Fighter cast member and UFC fighter, Seth Petruzelli.  Kimbo says that the last minute change from Shamrock to Petruzelli affected him mentally, and that the loss made him eager to fight, and to prove to himself and everyone that he can smash Petruzelli with one hand tied behind his back. Petruzelli has already voiced his discontent on Kimbo's comments, registering the following post on the Underground Forum:
"i did have respect for you, after our fight you said i was the better fighter.   there were 3 times that we could have fought after the elite show for you to get a rematch, but you declined all 3 times.   now you go on ESPN making excuses, saying the only reason you lost was that it was sprung on you the last minute and that you can beat me with one hand behind your back!!!!  you can go F yourself...maybe now that the UFC is having me back we will see for sure."
Regardless of how Kimbo fares during his stint on the upcoming heavyweight season of TUF, which premieres tonight, I'm sure a rematch with Seth Petruzelli would draw serious interest from a wide range of MMA fans.
These videos follow Tito Ortiz through a day of intense training as he takes the proper steps to shake loose any ring-rust that may hold him back against Mark Coleman at UFC 106 on November 21st. Ortiz hasn't seen action since losing to current UFC LHW champion Lyoto Machida in May of 2008, and he claims the nagging back injury that was plaguing his performances is far behind him.  Fans of the Huntington Beach Bad Boy will enjoy this one.
