ESPN MMA just announced that Dominick Cruz will defend his UFC Bantamweight Championship against top challenger, Urijah Faber at UFC 132 on July 2nd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.  Fight fans have been waiting for quite some time to see this match-up and now they will finally have their chance.  Many thought Dana White would have had both these fighters as opposing coaches on the current season of The Ultimate Fighter, but as we all know, that is not how it played out.

Although Jose Aldo successfully defended his featherweight title at UFC 129 against the very game Mark Hominick, he didn't quite live up to the hype by slowing down in the later rounds and having a very rough fifth round.  The expectations for Aldo are very high and anything less than perfection inside the Octagon is sure to create a buzz.  In looking human last week, Aldo caused many fans and pundits to question what went wrong.  There were rumors that he had a tough weight cut, and rumors that he was sick going into the bout.  But Chad Mendes, the undefeated featherweight contender who will probably get a title shot against Aldo at UFC 133, has another idea.  He says that Aldo simply was not up to snuff on his grappling conditioning.  In an interview with ESPN.com, Mendes said:

The weight cut might have been part of it but I’m sticking with it’s a completely different kind of conditioning when you’re on the ground. His wrestling and grappling conditioning is not the same as his standup conditioning.

Being explosive on the feet is different than grappling, with the squeezing and pushing and pulling. It’s different on your muscles. We haven’t seen him on the ground a lot and I think that played a part in how tired he looked.

Vineland, NJ – Cage Fury Fighting Championship (CFFC) is pleased to announce the signing of a rising light –heavyweight star, Adlan Amagov making his North American debut Friday night, May 20th, 2011 at Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey at CFFC 8: Seek and Destroy. His opponent is none other than IFL and Bellator veteran Jamal “the suit” Patterson of the famed Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City.

Amagov comes into this bout with a record of 7-1-1 with a highlight of exhilarating knockouts.  After losing his pro debut, Amagov went on a tear going 7-0-1 with five out of those seven wins coming by KO or TKO in the first round.  However, his toughest yet to date may come from the “Suit”.  Patterson never shied away from a challenge making his pro debut in the IFL in 2006 with a submission victory over MMA veteran, Matt Horwich in the first round.

Patterson sports a record of 5-3 with five submissions.  He has fought UFC veterans and his last fight was controversial split decision loss Tim Carpenter.  This match is sure to end in a KO or submission, so don’t miss the action on Friday night, May 20th 2011!  Limited tickets are still available at Ticketmaster.com and if you can’t make the show, the event will be broadcasted live via PPV on ww.GFL.tv.

Anthony "Rumble" Johnson and John "Doomsday" Howard have a long standing beef that we've covered quite a bit on here. These two guys are definitely on a collision course, but before they throw down, they've got to worry about the opponents in front of them, not each other.  They are both fighting on June 26 on the UFC on Versus 4 card.  Rumble is taking on Nate "The Great" Marquardt, and Doomsday faces Martin Kampmann.  Both opponents are very formidable, and neither man needs distractions.  Indeed, it's clear that Rumble is getting really sick and tired of all the Doomsday talk.  On his Twitter, he said:

I'm fighting a fighter/beast/friend that's on a totally diff level. Why are knuckle heads talkin bout John Howard instead of Nate Marquardt like the the fight wit him isn't important? Get wit the program ppl. John has a opponent he is focusing on right now and so do I. The last thing on my mind is him.

Rumble is very smart for focusing on Nate the Great instead of Doomsday.  Nate is a very high caliber fighter and this is going to be a tough match.  Doomsday would do well by adopting the same outlook because Kampmann is far from a gimme fight.

Once these two guys are finished with their respective opponents, then it's time to resume their Hatfield-McCoy feud.  Until then, focus!

Here's the video we shot of Doomsday talking about the Rumble beef.

Greg Schoen is the world's oldest whitebelt.  He's training for his first Muay Thai fight and will share his experiences right here as he prepares for his fighting debut.  This is the first in a four part series.

Ever wonder how you would do in an amateur Muay Thai fight? I have so I am entering an amateur Muay Thai tournament on May 29th and I intend to take you, the reader, along with me to experience the highs and lows of training for it. The way I figure it I can train four days a week every week until fight day. Considering each training session will last about an hour to an hour and a half I have available to me fourteen to eighteen hours to prepare. I will have to start running again and that is something I am going to need help with. My knowledge of how to condition myself cardio wise is basic at best.

All of this has already been cleared with the wife and baby. I am after all just a normal Joe Schlub with a few miles of training under his belt. A superior athlete I am not. But I am interested in experiencing a stand up fight against a trained opponent and I think at this time in my life it is something that I think is incredibly fun to do so why not, right?

According to gossip site TMZ, Matt Hughes has been named on a police report in relation to a bar fight that occurred on April 23 in Taylor Springs, IL.  Allegedly, Hughes was arguing with another man and shoved him, causing the man to collide with a woman.  The woman supposedly suffered a broken nose as a result.

TMZ also obtained the pics of the woman (at the top of this article) with her busted beak.  It's way too early to assume anything about this case, and the police are investigating.  We'll have more on this story as it develops.

In the meantime, here's a Matt Hughes Country Boy highlight video.

Chuck Liddell is not only a great fighter, he's a great family man too.  He has two kids of his own, and is engaged to Heidi Northcott, who has one.  It's a regular Brady Bunch, except for the fact that Chuck is the opposite of wimpy Mike Brady, and as far as I know they don't have a maid name Alice.

Here are some pics of the Chuck Bunch.
