Evolution AMMA surely made an impact with their second event last night. It was an awesome night of fights at Rahway, NJ's Union County Performing Arts Center. The venue was fantastic, but the fights stole the show. The audience loved the action so much it took them forever to leave the arena. Each fighter came to win and they gave everything they had to the delight of the crowd. Fransico Arcibal, Jose Suarez and Steve Katz put on one hell of a show and my hat is off to them. These guys do it right and it was an honor to host the show from the cage. Next show is in July and I am already looking forward to it. Check out Jim Genia's blog for a fight by fight recap: http://mmajournalist.blogspot.com/ Official results after the jump. I'll have more on Evolution AMMA soon, so stay tuned! Hammer time! In this video Mark Coleman tosses Alex Andrade around in training inside the Octagon. Old School!
The results of WEC 47 marked another changing of the guard in the headlining match-up between newly crowned bantamweight champion Brian Bowles and challenger Dominick Cruz. Cruz proved to be too fleet afoot by nimbly dashing in and out of striking range while plastering Bowles with an array of strikes, using precise angles and technical footwork to accumulate offense while avoiding any damage from Bowles. Bowles was unable to answer the 3rd round bell, registering a TKO-win for Cruz and endowing him with the title of the WEC's world bantameight champion. Bowles apparently broke his hand early, and explained that this did distract him and cause him to be a little gunshy--but regardless, the fight was owned in full by Cruz in a very mature and intelligent disassembly of the formerly undefeated Bowles.
If you've been lucky enough to have wasted away precious years of your life on a certain internet MMA forum, you may remember the sport's premiere and pioneering creative artist: bob s. This man was way ahead of his time; the Vincent Van Gogh of early MMA composition. The aberrant artist was one of the rare few who dared to deviate wildly from the norm by rendering childlike caricatures re-enacting historic MMA and submission grappling events, such as when Rener Gracie defeated Gordinho by triangle choke at the 2003 Pan Ams, the unforgettable confrontation between backyard brawler Kimbo Slice and pro-MMA fighter Sean Gannon, and the unfortunate scuffle in a bar between various members of the Gracie family and Damien Riccio where little Pepe was struck by an errant blow. If the vivid and imaginative portrayal of legendary MMA figures is not breathtaking enough, the embedded commentary from bob s will surely win you over. Where some artists strive to send a crystal-clear message through visual translation, bob s refused to conform and transcended the confines of normalcy by embedding his personal annotations within the image. Please join me in paying homage to MMA's precedential and groundbreaking virtuoso, the great bob s. There are many more epic renditions beyond the jump. If you are familiar with the man called "The Korean Zombie", then you probably know Chan Sung Jung for his attenion-grabbing performances in the Sengoku FW Gran Prix. This talent-laden tournament served as the springboard for Chan Sung to vault into the spotlight of worldwide MMA, and although he was on the wrong end of one of the many disappointing and controversial decisions on the card after an impressive scrap with eventual tournament victor Masanori Kanehara, the Zombie looked great despite the result; and looked even better in his dual-dismantlement of Shintaro Ishiwatari and Matt Jaggers as his respective first round and alternate-match opponents. As reported by The Garv, Chan Sung Jung is in the process of making things official for his venture across the pond to the WEC, where the young 23 year-old will entrench himself amongst their fierce stable of dynamic featherweights for his promotional and American MMA debut. The Garv will soon be featuring an exclusive interview with Chan Sung Jung, and to get you primed, I've decided to engulf you in an assemblage of videos featuring "The Korean Zombie" in action. You will see a tall, skinny, unassuming looking fellow with a sheepish smile proceed to assault foe after foe with an intense barrage of sharp striking, and then display equally impressive and devastating prowess with his aggressive submission game. James Toney is excited about his UFC contract and is already calling people out. Check out his latest diatribe. Toney always did have a way with words!
I will be heading over to Rahway, NJ later today to host the Evolution Amateur MMA card tonight at the Union County Performing Arts Center in lovely Rahway, New Jersey. Lots of upcoming talent on the show. Check out these guys before they make it into the UFC!! Click the pic for details on how to attend. Also being broadcast live and free tonight on GoFightLive.
