Many of you may know who Jay Coleman is, some of you may not. I assure you that after reading this, you will all know Jay Coleman and you will know him on a whole different level. Jay Coleman was a promising MMA fighter a few years back. With endless talent and a seemingly bright future, the sky was the limit for Coleman. Jay Coleman actually began his career back in 2005 with three straight TKO victories. His very first win, a brutal TKO victory over then UFC bound Mike Massenzio. Coleman was the talk of MMA on the East Coast for some time. After an impressive 3-0 start, Coleman fell from the ranks after putting together a disappointing 3-4 record. Many just chalked Coleman up to being another “flash in the pan” and at 6-4, were they far off?

Without a doubt, Coleman appeared to have endless talent, but never seemed to realize his potential. Nobody knew why, until now. Not having fought since 2007, Jay Coleman will make his return to the cage in two weeks at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 8: Seek and Destroy. This has been a long time coming and is much more than your typical comeback story. Very few, if any, knew what the reasons were for Coleman’s fall from grace. Now, in his very own words, Jay Coleman tells his remarkable story.

UFC® ANNOUNCES UNPRECEDENTED ACCIDENT INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR ITS ATHLETES

Customized Program That Complements Existing Event Coverage Now in Place

for Nearly 350 UFC and STRIKEFORCE® Athletes

Las Vegas, Nevada – Zuffa, LLC, owner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship® brand, announced today that nearly 350 UFC® and STRIKEFORCE® independent contractor athletes will now be eligible for customized accident insurance coverage. The coverage will be underwritten by Houston Casualty Insurance Company and complement existing event coverage the company already provides its athletes. Never before has a combat sports promoter provided coverage to nearly 350 athletes, and this unprecedented policy will cover accidental injuries suffered by athletes while training, as well as non-training incidents such as automobile accidents.

To date, Zuffa event-related insurance has always met or exceeded Athletic Commission requirements and has covered all injuries sustained during competition. After exploring the purchase of “training insurance” for its athletes for several years – much of which was met with difficulty in finding an insurance company willing to insure mixed martial artists – Zuffa officials were able to secure a comprehensive plan through A+ rated Houston Casualty.

The new policy adds 24-hour worldwide medical life insurance and dental coverage, as well as emergency medical evacuation. Zuffa will pay 100 percent of the premiums for its athletes and have an employee dedicated to handling and filing all claims.

“Our athletes are some of the very best in the world and we’ve committed significant financial resources to provide them with insurance that complements the gold standard we have set for event-related coverage,” UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said. “We’re pleased to provide coverage that enables our athletes to seek and receive treatment for injuries sustained while preparing for bouts.”

“As this sport continues to grow, we have been working hard to secure additional insurance coverage so that our athletes can perform at the highest levels,” UFC President Dana White said. “We’re proud to give our athletes access to this type of insurance.”

Ken Shamrock talks about fighting Tito Ortiz and how it saved the UFC, which, according to him, was on the brink of closing down.  He also talks about UFC Rio and how a fight between him and Royce Gracie would result in a monster PPV bonanza.   Good stuff!

UFC LHW champion Jon "Bones" Jones has one of the most exciting styles of fighting seen in the Octagon today.  Although he has been fighting for several years, he appears to be as adept on his feet as he is on the ground, which is an amazing feat considering that he's been wrestling his whole life.

Bones is a fan of Bruce Lee, so it's not surprising that he would wear a Jeet Kune Do t-shirt.  His style is a mishmash of techniques taken from many different disciplines that he blends effortlessly into a devastating style all his own.  If there was one example of a fighter using Bruce Lee's way of no way in the Octagon, Jon Jones would be it.

But in addition to being a hard-nosed martial artist in the Bruce Lee vein, Jonny Bones also likes to stay "pretty" like Muhammad Ali.  And he's a mama's boy.  This guy just has endless facets to his personality.  Here are some pics of Bones dolling up, posing with his mother and brothers, teaching at the Paradise Warrior's Retreat, and just plain hanging out.  Enjoy.

Roy Nelson believes that MMA could benefit by shortening the rounds to three minutes each, and adding more of them.  He'd like to see standard fights go five rounds and title fights ten.  Nelson feels that shorter rounds will result in better fights.   In an interview with ESPN.com, Nelson said:

You’d probably see a lot more action because you’re constantly trying to win the round.  Guys wouldn’t be feeling out for two minutes. It’s boom, you’ve got to go right away.

They want to add more championship rounds -- that’s where I say switch everything to three minutes and go 10 rounds. Then you have a lot of ups and downs.

Roy also believes that shortening the rounds will result in better decisions, because judges would have an easier time keeping the entire round in their minds:

Tank Abbott was one of the early UFC's most feared punchers.  His epic KO of Steve Nelmark left fans in the crowd and at home wondering if Nelmark was dead.  It was that scary. In addition to his big punching power, he was also great on the mic, dropping such gems as:  He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day, but is a pussy today.

Time may have put an end to Tank's fighting career, but he still has the outspokeness that made him a fan favorite.  When asked if he could knock out Brock Lesnar, he didn't even have to think about it.  Check out this video Tank Q&A.  After that, a video of some of his greatest KTFOs.

During a recent interview over at Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Association, Gray Maynard, who faces off against Frankie Edgar for the third time in May, touched on a lot of topics.  One such topic was the title shot awarded to Anthony "Showtime" Pettis after he defeated Ben Henderson.  Maynard apparently feels that Pettis has not fought anyone worth while, outside of Henderson and does not think Pettis is deserving of a championship fight.  While many would tend to disagree with Gray, he does bring up some valid points.

Read more after the jump and see exactly what Maynard had to say about the Pettis situation...

The Bronx Week Film Festival is coming up on the 16th of May.  One of the films that will be featured is a documentary based on Mixed Martial Arts in New York.  I was fortunate enough to have received an invitation for a media screening of this film, the latest from Kahleem Poole-Tejada.  The film was put together with Kahleem’s “KahL-One” Productions and The Coalition to Legalize MMA in NY, founded by Stephen Koepfer.  I am sure many expected to see a film arguing why MMA should be brought to the state of New York.  What we saw was something else, something more than that.
