The Wrestling Observer has reported that Nick Diaz didn't appear for the officially scheduled drug test for his fight with Jay Hieron on the upcoming Strikeforce "Carano vs. Cyborg" card.
Ceasar Gracie, Diaz's coach, claimed Diaz was "busy training" as the reason why neither he nor the Stockton fighter attended the drug test. Diaz has made no attempt to hide his affection for smoking marijuana, speaking out on the subject as a pro-pot advocate; a questionable move considering all MMA governing bodies deem the substance unacceptable, and Diaz was robbed of the most notorious performance of his career by receiving a "No Contest" ruling due to a positive test for marijuana after choking out Pride legend Takanori Gomi.
The California State Athletic Commission attempted to institute the test on Friday in order to receive results in time to clear Diaz's license for the fight versus Hieron on the 15th, and although they agreed to a test on Monday, the commission is unsure that will be enough time to clear Diaz. The other significant portension is the fact that Hieron was signed against Diaz to fill in for Joe Riggs, who was rendered incapable by a bad reaction to a drug, after Hieron was ready to fight on the Affliction card that crumbled away at the last minute.
The outcries surrounding the spoiling of Affliction centered around the inability to attain the paychecks that the fighters would normally earn after months of training and preparation- and now it looks like Jay Hieron may potentially be facing the same issue.
