Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir has gotten himself in a bit of hot water for speaking freely about his unhealthy obsession with Brock Lesnar. It all started when Mir appeared as a guest on The Carmichael Dave show and jettisoned the mushy, sportsmanlike point of view by unleashing his true desire for Lesnar's demise.
I want to fight Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person. I want to break his neck in the ring. I want him to be the first person that dies due to Octagon-related injuries. That's what's going through my mind.
It wasn't long after that Dana White caught wind of the foul and unsportsmanlike aroma, and joined Mir in refusing to restrain his true feelings.
Frank is a fucking idiot! I have never heard something so unprofessional and idiotic in my life.
It's interesting how UFC fighters can quickly change their tune on something they're passionate about if "The Dana" frowns upon it. The UFC has since issued some damage control by Dana White and the official apology from Frank Mir.
White first set the table for Mir's remorse:
I was disappointed by Frank Mir’s comments. Frank’s been with the UFC a long time, he’s a two-time heavyweight champion and a commentator for the WEC. I think his emotions are running high right now, he has a big fight coming up next month and he’s still upset about his loss to Lesnar. He’s been talked to, he regrets what he said, and he won’t be saying anything like that again.
Frank Mir echoed the feel-good vibe of White's sentiments.
“I would like to apologize to Brock Lesnar, his family, the UFC and the UFC fans for my stupid remarks. I respect Brock, all the other fighters, and the sport of mixed martial arts. I’m sorry that I stepped out of line.
Mir is facing Shane Carwin for the interim heavyweight title at UFC 111 on March 27th, so the best way for him to exact his revenge is to convincingly bypass Carwin for a shot at his nemesis. Thanks to MMAScraps for the clip of the radio interview.
