Melvina Lathan, the chairwomen of the New York State Athletic Commission, is a fan of combat sports and is recognized as one of boxing's top judges, having judged 83 world championship fights.  Melvina is also a friend to MMA and has been working diligantly towards getting the sport legalized in New York.  She's also a good friend of mind and I was delighted to see this article in thee NY Times, where she discusses the legalization issue.  Hopefully we'll see MMA sanctioned here in the near future.  Great article about a great lady.

But she appreciates mixed martial arts enough to want the State Legislature to legalize the sport it banned.
