As has been confirmed by many sources, Brazilian jiu-jitsu grand master and Gracie family patriarch Helio Gracie has died. He was 95.
Helio learned jiu-jitsu from his brother Carlos, but he was too small for some of the moves so he adapted the art for his sleight frame. And Gracie Jiu-jitsu was born.
Helio then taught his sons and one of them, Rorion, went on to form the UFC, where another son, Royce, dominated. This is what gave birth to modern day MMA, and all mixed martial artists and fans owe a debt of gratitude to the Gracie family.
I know one thing: St Peter had better let Helio into the Pearly Gates with no questions asked. Otherwise he'll be choked out!
Rest in Peace, Helio Gracie.
