Dan Miller (11-4) got off to a very quick start in his UFC career, winning his first three matches and looking great in the process. Since then, however, he's had three very tough losses, all decisions, and all to highly ranked contenders, such as Chael Sonnen, Damien Maia, and most recently, Michael Bisping. So it is imperative that the NJ fighter look good in his fight tonight against John Salter (5-1) at UFC 118.
Miller, out of AMA fight club, is trained and managed by Mike Constantino. Mike runs a great camp at AMA, and they have many fighters in the UFC, including Dan's brother Jim Miller. This is a great benefit to Dan and the rest of the team, because, as Mike puts it, "Our guys are always training and helping one another so it is like an on going, never ending training camp."
The fight with Salter came about because Salter's original opponent, Phil Baroni, dropped out due to injuries. Miller is used to taking fights on short notice, so he feels prepared. "I have been training hard helping Jim get ready for his September 15th fight," he explains, "so I am ready to go."
Obviously this is a critical fight in Dan's career and he knows how important it is to beat Salter. "There is always pressure to win a fight," he points out, "but now I am very hungry considering I dropped a couple in a row." He'll need that hunger because there are no easy fights in the UFC. Still, Miller is confident. "I am going to come out and keep the pressure on him and look to lock up a submission or a KO finish and begin my steep climb back into contention."
Let's get it on!
