Dan Miller was preparing to face Yushin Okami at UFC 98, but Okami tore a ligament and had to pull out of the fight. Chael Sonnen was picked as the replacement. I asked Miller's manager, Mike Constantino of AMA Fight Club, what he and Dan thought about the opponent switch. "Dan is disappointed because Okami is the #2 ranked middleweight on many peoples charts," Mike told me. "And as you know Miller boys always want to fight the best so it is a little disappointment to miss that opportunity but the opportunity will be there in the future." And how does this affect Miller's training? "Sonnen is a lefty like Okami so a lot of the footwork and technique is the same but they are 2 completely different strikers with different tendencies," Mike stated. "I have seen some things with Chael that we are looking to take advantage of that were not there with Okami." Constantino went on to say: "Sonnen is a tough gritty fighter…good wrestling, good striker pretty well versed…I feel like Dan has fought this type of fighter before in Mcgivern & Rosholt so he will be comfortable with the training regimen and game plan for this type of fighter." Well, if this fight goes anything like the Jake Rosholt fight, it will make all the highlight reels and Dan Miller will find himself in title contention at 185 pounds. Good luck, Dan Miller!
