Cyborg Santos vs Marloes Coenen copy

Strikeforce has confirmed that Marloes Coenen's smooth armbar victory over Roxanne Modafferi on the "Fedor Vs. Rogers" undercard would indeed be enough to warrant a title shot at Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos at the end of January.

Coenen's submission Saturday night avenged a previous loss to the scrappy Modaferri in Japan's K-Grace 1 in 2007.  Coenen, one of the more prominant female MMA fighters, holds a solid 17-3 career record and has a 70% finishing percentage by submission.  She was originally slated to rematch Erin Toughill, another tough as nails female MMA fighter who had bested Coenen in the past, but Toughill withdrew from the fight at the last minute due to "medical reasons".

Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos is the Chute Boxe terror who set the world on fire by severely bloodying "the face of women's MMA" (belonging to Gina Carano at the time) on the Strikeforce "Carano Vs. Cyborg" card, which represented a historic landmark on the newly blossoming landscape of full-contact female fighting.  Santos, who shares her nickname with her husband and fellow Strikeforce fighter Evangelista Santos, boasts an impressive 8-1 record, with her lone loss coming by way of submission in her first professional fight. Further details about this Strikeforce event at the tail-end of January will be released in the coming weeks.
