I have joined a BJJ class, at a school owned by BJJ champion Emerson Souza. I've been going for a few weeks now, but today was the first day that I felt good in there. I used to train off and on (mostly off) years ago, but this time I am making a dedicated commitment.
The first few times were all about me not relaxing and using way too much strength. I was stiff as a board and gassing like crazy. Today I finally relaxed and used leverage and was soft like water. It felt great to actually roll and think about technique instead of just resisting everything with brute strength. BJJ is not really like riding a bicycle, because you do forget how to, but today it was like I was riding with no hands.
I am going to train again tonight, right after my son trains. He is 8 years old and just started and he loves the class.
You can expect to see me chronicling my journey on this website. And who knows, maybe I'll even enter a tournament.
BJJ is the way!
