Despite being faced with a series of detrimental roadblocks, Bitetti Combat will forge ahead with their star-studded 6th show on February 25th.
Although it was previously reported that headliner Paulo Filho would withdraw from the card for personal reasons and be replaced by Thales Leites, Filho has decided to carry through with his commitment to fight after his opponent, Yuki Sasaki, said he would only participate if it was against Filho. Now, with the original main-event still intact, the card has emerged stronger than before as Leites will still compete versus the Minnesota Fight Factory's Rico Washington.
The show will also be available as an online pay-per-view for $12.95. Visit www.bitetticombatppv.com to order the live stream, which will begin at 5:00 PM Eastern Time on Thursday the 25th. More changes to the card and the final line-up are addressed after the jump.
As we've discussed in-depth, Yuki Sasaki should provide a surprisingly formidable challenge for Filho in the evening's focal point. The other star attractions feature veteran heavyweight Jeff Monson taking on the dangerous Glover Teixeira, and former UFC middleweight contender Thales Leites facing scrappy Rico "The Ill Silverback" Washington.
Washington is a tough 4-4 fighter who recently fell short against Gustavo Machado on the last Bitetti Combat card. He deserves a lot of respect for accepting a fight against a premiere opponent like Leites with almost no time to prepare. You can read more about Rico Washington in this article from MnMMANews.
Other alterations to the card include the elimination of experienced submissionist Valentijn Overeem, who sustained an injury while training for his bout with Team Nogueira's Fabio Maldonado. Stepping in for Overeem will be Guto Inocente, a man with limited MMA experience, but one who wields rock-solid striking skills. Check out a highlight video of Inocente at the end of his article. Considering he and Maldonado share a proficiency in kickboxing, this refreshed match-up should prove to be more exciting than the original.
The remaining match-ups for Bitetti Combat 6 consist of Pride and DREAM standout Luiz "Firmino" Buscape vs. Fransisco Drinaldo, UFC one-timer Danillo "Indio" Villefort vs. Cassiano Tytschyo, and Danillo's brother, undefeated Yuri Villefort vs. Julio Cesar Merenda.
The undercard will also be streamed live by Sherdog, featuring the following fights:
