The obscure Bitetti Combat Event in Brazil was already shaping up nicely with a solid lineup of fights, including the re-emergence of Ricardo Arona taking on veteran Marvin Eastman, Antonio Rogerio Noguiera versus "The Brazilian Killa" Alex Stiebling, and a fight between two grappling-sharks in Luciano Azevedo against Milton Vieira. It has now reached an entirely new level with the rematch of well-known heavyweights Jeff Monson and Pedro Rizzo.
Rizzo caught Jeff "The Snowman" Monson with the heavy hands he is known for back in the Art of War show in September 2007, but the busy Monson has since been on an extremely admirable heavyweight win streak, prevailing in 6 straight against such prominent names as Mark Kerr, Jimmy Ambriz, Ricco Rodriguez, Roy Nelson, and Russian slugger Sergei Kharitonov. Some names on that list may indeed be out of the limelight, but they are still impressive considering the overall heavyweight talent in the world, with Nelson and Kharitonov being very respectable victories.
Rizzo has fared in converse fashion by dropping two in a row since KO'ing Monson to taste his own medicine in KO losses to Josh Barnett and Gilbert Yvel. Excluding Affliction, the worldwide heavyweight scene isn't necessarily exploding with excitement, so the addition of two experienced and wily fighters like Monson and Rizzo only increase the growing appeal to this surprisingly intriguing card.
