The enticing welterweight match-ups continue to blossom. MMAWeekly reports that UFC 111 in New Jersey will be the setting for a clash between Ben "Killa B" Saunders and Martin "The Hitman" Kampmann.
8-1-2 Ben Saunders fights out of ATT in Coconut Creek, Florida. The gangly welterweight exhibited his ever-improving Muay Thai arsenal at UFC 106 where he bashed knees off of Marcus Davis' head from the plum clinch, garnering the honor of being the first fighter to shut Davis' lights completely off with the vicious KO victory. Saunders fought to a majority draw in his first two professional fights, so the flurry he digested from Mike Swick remains the only stain on the carpet for the tall southpaw.
Danish shootfighter Martin Kampmann rebounded nicely from his shocking loss to Paul "Semtex" Daley with his "Submission of the Night" victory over Jacob Volkman at UFC 108. Kampmann is a sturdy 7-2 in the UFC and 16-3 overall, with Daley and middleweight juggernaut Nate Marquardt handing him his only losses inside the octagon.
This pairing makes perfect sense. Both fighters are exceptional kickboxers and in the process of clawing their way back into contention after facing a bitter defeat. The difference in this bout will be the insanely long limbs of Ben Saunders, who has polished up his Muay Thai machine nicely and wreaks havoc with his significant height and reach advantage, both standing with straight punches and in the clinch with serious leverage.
