BABULU and MOUSASI

MMAJunkie reports that this match-up, which was previously scheduled for Affliction, will take place on the "Carano vs. Cyborg" event for the Strikeforce LHW title on August 15th. This marks the first successful revival from the ashes of the flatlined Affliction: Trilogy card before Josh Barnett's urine content washed the entire event away.  The report also relays the interesting news that Mousasi has signed a contract with Strikeforce as opposed to being rented with participation from M-1 Global, although the details of the contract are not mentioned. Renato "Babalu" Sobral was the former #1 contender at 205 lbs. in the UFC before being laid out by Chuck Liddell, and then Jason Lambert thwarted his return to the top with a vicious KO.  Sobral did win his next and final UFC match against David Heath, but his reluctance to release his chokehold when the referee attempted to intervene to save the tapping Heath turned his victory sour, and he was released to find work elsewhere.  He has rebounded to add four more wins to his five-fight win streak, with his three most recent being impressive victories over Mike Whitehead, former TUF'er Bobby Southworth (to win the Strikeforce LHW belt), and Rameau Thierry Sokodjou. Red Devil fighter Gegard Mousasi is about as good as it gets for a 185-pound fighter outside of the UFC.  He is the DREAM MW champion with a 25-2 record, with wins over Denis Kang, Melvin Manhoef, and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, with Mark Hunt being his most recent win in the first round of DREAM's "Super Hulk" Tournament.  This fight marks Mousasi's first trial on American soil, where he will look to quickly establish his presence in a higher weight class as the talented fighter has focused on the 205 lb. LHW division.
