The Garv.com has just received confirmation that Nova Uniao fighter Amilcar Alves has been released from his contract following his loss to Charlie Brenneman at "UFC: Fight For the Troops 2" last weekend.
Entering the Octagon with an impressive 11-1 clip, Alves was first pitted against Mike Pierce at UFC 118. Though talented with submissions, Alves is primarily a Muay Thai specialist, and the two accomplished collegiate wrestlers he faced were able to steer clear of his strikes and contain him with takedowns and top-control en route to unanimous decision victories.
Though only encountering Kryptonite-like match-ups stylistically, Alves is staying positive and learning from his first taste of the big leagues to become a better fighter in the future, and is anxious to get back into action.
Editor's Correction: Alves lost to Pierce by 3rd Round submission, not unanimous decision.
