UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar appeared on ESPN with Dana White this morning and revealed the long awaited results of the mysterious malady that has kept him out of action since July of 2009.
Brock became ill and was first (mis)diagnosed with mononucleosis. When his problems persisted, the root cause was finally identified as diverticulitis, or the technical definition provided by Brock, "a hole in my stomach". The normal procedure to remedy this situation would be to remove a portion of the colon, which would unfortunately have spelled the end of Brock's MMA career.
Despite being told that surgery was inevitable by more than one doctor, Brock stuck it out and got hopped up on antibiotics. Then--the miracle took place. Lesnar had a follow-up appointment where it was determined that his body had begun to effectively heal itself. The current prognosis is that he will back to throwing people down and punching them in the face in no time at all.
Dana White predicted that Brock will be ready for action this summer, and it looks like we have an unofficial 4-man tournament going, as Brock will face the winner of the Frank Mir/Shane Carwin interim title fight; and if for some reason the winner is unable to fight, he will face the victor of the Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira/Cain Velasquez bout.
Congratulations on the recovery, Brock, and welcome back!
